Ryan Gosling was photographed last week with “Heroes” cutie Hayden Panettiere, but Tuesday night he only had eyes for Heath Ledger’s ex, Michelle Williams. The two had dinner at Piadina and were caught by onlookers having a cozy cigarette outside the West 10th Street eatery. The star of “Lars and the Real Girl” was “smiling and gazing at her,” said our witness. Reps for both said they weren’t on a date, but just discussing an upcoming film project they’re working on together.
Michelle on the move?
Famed Brooklyn resident Michelle Williams may be leaving her outer-borough followers in the dust. Williams was recently overheard telling friends she was considering a move to Manhattan, now that her ex Heath Ledger, the father of her daughter Matilda, has shipped off to SoHo. “The Brooklyn brownstone is too big for just her and the baby,” a tipster said of the actress’s Cobble Hill place. Reps for Williams have not commented.
Heath and Michelle: behind the split
Sources close to Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams aren’t surprised about the couple’s split. “They have been broken up, on and off, since Matilda was born, and tried in many ways to make it work for her sake,” says a source close to Ledger. “Matilda will remain their first priority.” The day the news of the breakup surfaced, Ledger brought his mini-me to NYC’s Children’s Museum of Manhattan, and on September 3, Williams and her daughter were spotted at a cafe in Brooklyn. The past year or so has been filled with ups and downs, says a source, as the duo spent “a few months apart and barely spoke.” “You’ll see them together again,” a Ledger source says of the committed parents. “It won’t mean they’re back on, but they’ll be spending time with Matilda.”

Heath and Michelle split
Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams have called it quits on their three-year relationship. A source close to the couple says the actors “quietly and amicably split a few weeks ago… The relationship had been rocky recently. They tried very hard to make it work but finally decided to separate. They just grew apart.” The couple, who live in Brooklyn and have a nearly two-year-old daughter, met on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2005. “They have a beautiful daughter and they are both committed to being great parents,” said the source. Reps for the pair could not be reached.
Heath hints at a marriage
Heath Ledger once again dodged questions about whether he and his baby mama Michelle Williams have tied the knot in a brief interview with Newsweek, though his responses lean towards a positive answer.
Are the reports true that you and Michelle Williams got married? “We try not to talk about it, to keep it our own kind of thing. It’s obviously very sacred. People write stories regardless. The stories haven’t necessarily been bad. So we’re letting people run with their assumptions.”
It’s not like people won’t eventually find out. “That’s right.”
And yet, how will we ever know for sure if you never say anything? “They take photos of us wearing our wedding rings.”
I’ve seen those photos. So I take it that you are married. “You can write whatever you wish.”
Why don’t you just make the announcement now and get it over with? “We’re not ones to announce.”
As the Joker in the new Batman movie, have you tried on the mask yet? “Metaphorically, yes. I’ve been bouncing around like a lunatic for four months. I definitely have a different take on him, but I’ve yet to do a proper makeup run. It’s on the agenda.”
Do you walk around the house all day practicing your laugh? “I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been.”

Have Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams secretly tied the knot? Both have been spotted around their hometown of NYC with wedding rings. Check out Ledger’s ring finger in this pic, taken yesterday. Williams was seen wearing hers on Sunday. The pair were rumored to have picked up a marriage license at NYC City Hall in December.
