Heath and Michelle: behind the split
Sources close to Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams aren’t surprised about the couple’s split. “They have been broken up, on and off, since Matilda was born, and tried in many ways to make it work for her sake,” says a source close to Ledger. “Matilda will remain their first priority.” The day the news of the breakup surfaced, Ledger brought his mini-me to NYC’s Children’s Museum of Manhattan, and on September 3, Williams and her daughter were spotted at a cafe in Brooklyn. The past year or so has been filled with ups and downs, says a source, as the duo spent “a few months apart and barely spoke.” “You’ll see them together again,” a Ledger source says of the committed parents. “It won’t mean they’re back on, but they’ll be spending time with Matilda.”

Office star and husband separate
The Office actress Jenna Fischer and her writer/director husband, James Gunn, have separated after more than six years of marriage. “We have chosen to separate. We are sorry for any pain this causes family and friends,” the couple said in a statement. “The enthusiasm we have expressed for each other’s lives, spirits and career is real – we have been each other’s cheerleader and friend during the past six years and continue to be so now and in the future.” In a note on a MySpace page, the couple thank fans for their support, and say of the split, “You might be tempted to make one of us ‘feel better’ by putting the other one down in a post. Please don’t – we still have the utmost respect for one another, and we’d have to delete you.”
Another breakup for Lance

Lance Armstrong and designer Tory Burch (who bears a striking resemblance to Sheryl Crow, wouldn’t you say?) have called it quits on their relationship. “It was a distance thing,” said an Armstrong insider. (He’s based on Austin; she’s in NYC.) But a Burch source disagreed: “Tory would have moved to Texas for him if he popped the question. But he didn’t want to commit.” Armstrong’s rep had no comment.
Heath press-shy following split
Heath Ledger was looking somber at the Venice film fest today following his split from longtime girlfriend Michelle Williams. At a news conference Tuesday afternoon promoting his new film I’m Not There, an witness described the actor as very quiet while fielding questions from reporters. “He kept his head down a lot and I think he was hoping not to be asked too much,” said the onlooker. “He had his hat tipped a little low and didn’t really make eye contact with anyone. You could tell he didn’t want to be there.” The press were only allowed to ask questions about the movie, and didn’t question the actor about his recent breakup. “Heath clearly had a lot going on in his head,” said the source. “Sometimes he was just staring off to the side, clearly in his own world.”
Heath and Michelle split
Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams have called it quits on their three-year relationship. A source close to the couple says the actors “quietly and amicably split a few weeks ago… The relationship had been rocky recently. They tried very hard to make it work but finally decided to separate. They just grew apart.” The couple, who live in Brooklyn and have a nearly two-year-old daughter, met on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2005. “They have a beautiful daughter and they are both committed to being great parents,” said the source. Reps for the pair could not be reached.
House stars end engagement

House stars Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer have called off their engagement. “After much consideration, we have decided not to get married,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We are still very close, and we look forward to continuing to work together on House.” Spencer and Morrison became engaged over Christmas at the Eiffel Tower. I guess that means they broke up?
Christina Applegate’s divorce final
The ink is finally dry on Christina Applegate‘s divorce from actor Jonathon Scaech, according to papers filed yesterday in LA Superior Court. Schaech cited irreconcilable differences. The couple’s decision to split in December 2005 was mutual, says a rep. The pair have had a relatively amicable divorce, without bickering over property and finances. Applegate will keep both their LA homes and the Lexus; Scaech keeps the Mercedes Benz and requested custody of their cement Buddha.

Splitsville for Jessica and Cash?
New breakup rumors are swirling around Jessica Alba and her longtime boyfriend, Cash Warren. Sources say the Fantastic Four actress called Warren from Europe last Sunday and said, “I’m not in love with you anymore.” Hours later, Alba’s assistant reportedly headed to the LA home of the couple to pack up Warren’s belongings and move him out. The split “happened…almost out of nowhere,” said an insider. “[Warren] thinks it’s for another guy but doesn’t know… He’s totally devastated. But it was all her.” Alba’s rep has not commented.
