Jessica Simpson has refused an offer to meet U.S. president George Bush at a Republican fund-raising gala tonight. The star plans to visit Washington this afternoon to lobby Congress on behalf of the charity Operation Smile, but will not attend the evening gala because Operation Smile is a non-partisan group. “It just feels wrong,” an insider said. “She would love to meet the president and talk about Operation Smile…but she can’t do it at a fund-raiser for the Republican party.
